The Road is Calling

The road race season in Michigan kicked off in April with Spring Training Series Races in Ann Arbor and Waterford and the Ciociaro Can Am Challenge Series in Windsor. Now that roadies are all warmed up, it's time to stretch their legs in some good old-fashioned road and criterium racing. In the coming weeks road cyclists can look forward to the Grattan Race Series kick-off, the Cone Azalia Classic road race, the Tour of Kensington Valley, the Priority Health Tour De Leelanau, the Tour De Gaslight Criterium and in June, a race that is quickly becoming a favorite among all racers, citizen and professional alike - The Superior Bike Fest in Marquette.

Each month we highlight cool gear and gadgets for athletes. Check out what's featured in our June 2007 issue.
Stay Clean

You’ll never go dirty with help from Sea to Summit. Their pocket towel, pocket soap and pocket shower are all compact to carry anywhere. The Pocket Soap ($5) has 50 little “tissues,” perfect for when you can’t bring liquid or have limited space. Rinse off under the Pocket Shower ($25), which does double-duty as a stuff sack. Then dry off with an ultra-absorbent microfiber Pocket Towel ($15-$23). This three-pack is perfect for backpacking, adventure travel or cleaning up after a race. www.seatosummit.com

Piggy Protection

Keen’s new Waimea flip-flop is the newest in a long line of super-comfy sandals with support, traction and—for the accident-prone beach bum and tired post-race athlete—that great toe protection to shield your tootsies from harm. $40, www.keenfootwear.com

Ultimate Travel Tool

Think of the Wenger Clipper Swiss Army Knife as your ultra-portable manicure kit. If you’re tired of snagging your fingernails or resort to nail-biting when you’re traveling without a file or clipper, this pocket-sized tool—also safe for air travel—features a compact clipper plus a nail file, cleaner, tweezers, toothpick and scissors to trim while on the go. $33, www.wengerna.com
