Don't Miss the Tour de Frankenmuth Weekend of Events
Outdoor Athlete Staff
Looking for a full weekend of cycling action, complete with top-rate racing and a relaxing tour around Michigan’s thumb?
That’s where the Tour de Frankenmuth comes in, because this action-packed cycling trip will get you outside, working hard and enjoying the beautiful scenery in and around Frankenmuth.  If you haven’t already, this should be one of the events you mark on your calendar and circle with red ink.
The weekend festivities start with packet pick-up from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 24 at the Splash Village Hotel, in preparation for the Tour de Frankenmuth Road Race Saturday morning.  Cyclists from Juniors to Men’s and Women’s Pro Categories will take to the starting line throughout the day May 25 for the annual road race, which also serves as the third event in the Michigan Challenge series.
Following the day of road racing, the weekend of cycling adventures comes to a finish with the Gran Fondo di Thumb at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, May 26. Route mileage ranges from 40 to 130 miles for the Gran Fondo di Thumb, and everyone is welcome to participate in one of the four routes offered.
Both the road race and the Gran Fondo di Thumb follow a scenic trail set mainly along forested roads, and will start and finish with a loop of charming Frankenmuth, offering out-of-town participants a look at this lovely city.
Various other weekend activities include the awards ceremony at Zehnder’s Park following the road race, and the ever-famous Balloon Glow, all being held Saturday, May 25. All the events will offer several options, allowing cyclists to choose whatever makes them more comfortable.
Because mail-in options are no longer available and online registration closes Thursday, May 23, those who still want to participate in Tour de Frankenmuth should register as soon as possible on the event website.
