Olympic Style Track Cycling In Our Own Backyard
Carolyn Wells
The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park (IVBP) in Rochester Hills announces its summer race series beginning with the first race on Friday, June 15th at 7:30 pm.  Spectators are encouraged to experience an evening of Olympic style track bicycle racing. "The Friday Night Nas-Track Races are action packed, family friendly, and a real bargain," explains Dale Hughes.  Adult wristbands can be purchased at the track for $5 each and children's admission is free with a paid adult.  The IVBP is a non-profit organization and is operated solely by volunteers.  A vehicle entry fee to Bloomer Park is $5 or you can ride your bike in for FREE!
Hughes is the head coach of the Wolverine Sports Club Track Cycling Team, and owner of the company V-Worldwide that designs & builds velodromes all over the world. "We are amazingly fortunate to have this kind of facility in our 'backyard'. You never know what you'll see from our homegrown talent, youth racers, or from visiting race pros.  No need to wait for the London 2012 Olympics in August - there's action all summer, right here in Rochester Hills," says Hughes.
After witnessing the fastest 2-wheeled racing action in the Midwest, you may want to go for a spin yourself on the track.  You're in luck!  There are programs every day of the week for individual riders and groups. "Youth night" is Monday, and cyclists new to track cycling can attend a class on Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings at 10 am.  More information is available at the IVBP's website: www.IVBP.org .
See you at the Track!
