DMC to Host Third Annual River Days 5K During Detroit River Days Festival
Scott McMahon
For the sixth straight year, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy will present the Detroit River Days Festival from Friday, June 22 to Sunday, June 24. The series of events, which include live music, rides, a 5K run and walk, and the Pooch-a-Palooza Pet Walk, will take place on the Detroit RiverWalk and will extend out onto the Detroit River.
As part of the Detroit River Days Festival, the DMC will host its third annual River Days 5K on Saturday, June 23, on a course designed by marathoner Doug Kurtis.  The run will show off the Detroit RiverWalk, Milliken State Park, and is a great opportunity for participants to stay in shape this summer.  Kids also have the chance to run in a quarter-mile fun run through the Milliken State Park wetlands.  Costumes are also highly encouraged, and an award of two VIP concern tickets for a weekend performance will be given to those with the best costumes.  Prizes for the top five male and female runners also include two VIP concert tickets to a weekend performance, as well as one custom Conservancy Pewabic tile and a Conservancy water bottle and hat.
To register before the race, visit www.RiverDaysRun.com, or sign up at Rivard Plaza for day-of registration.  The race is $20 for the 5K before June 21 and $25 on race day.  The Kids’ Fun Run is $10 early and $15 onsite.  All participants will receive a River Days T-shirt and all-day admission to the festival on Saturday.
